But thanks to new learning techniques, you can be successful and accomplish your goals, no matter what happened to you in the past. Here are the main components that will help you to be successful.
Check out these tips that will help you get there.
Getting Things Done (GTD) Method for GED prep
The Getting Things Done Method was created by David Allen. He has sold over 1.5 million copies of his book with this simple yet effective productivity system.
We use this method to help students with their GED prep.
In essence, the top 3 lessons are:
- Use a “to-do list” to store things outside your mind and stay focused.
- Create a “next actions” list for all your projects to avoid thinking.
- Do a weekly review of everything, or else!
Lesson 1. Create a list of things to do
You can use post-it notes, a reminder system on your phone, or a simple piece of paper.
Whatever comes to your mind, you should put it immediately on the list. In this way, you can redirect interruptions as they occur and keep your mind from derailing, while you’re on a productivity roll.
Of course, this system is only useful if you empty your collection bucket or buckets regularly. David Allen suggests weekly.
Lesson 2: Create a “next actions” list
When the to-do list becomes overcrowded, you need to adjust.
Then, you should create your “next actions” list. Here, you should list out all of the specific tasks that are on your current projects.
This way, you’ll always know what you should work on next. So when you have the energy and time to work, pull out your next actions list, pick one of your tasks, and go.
You may have several “next actions” lists. Just sort them by location or project so you’ll know what to do next.
Lesson 3: Do a weekly review of everything
These are only two of the multiple lists found in the GTD system. Very important with all these lists is the following:
They’re only as good as they’re up to date!
We encourage you to get the app or the book to learn all about the GTD method. It’s a potent and effective productivity method.
Tiny Habits for your GED Prep
The tiny habits method was created by prof. BJ Fogg, the director of the Persuasive Tech Lab at Stanford University.
BJ Fogg teaches that the road to any desired behavior—say, regularly learning for your GED test or eating healthier—can be jump-started with three baby steps:
1. Tiny steps-Start small
Professor Fogg says: “Always pick small steps to reach your goals—steps so tiny that you may think it is ridiculous.” Because this is so radically easy, you will be more likely to actually adjust or complete your behavior, no matter how little or much motivation you’re feeling.
2. Find the right anchor
Professor Fogg continues: “just pick one of the existing routines in your life that can be a trigger toward your new and desired behavior. Watching TV or scrolling Facebook is routines that may act as fantastic anchors to trigger your new habit. Whether you’re realizing it or not, we all have our different sorts of routines, and the key is to discover which of your routines is the best trigger to help you with your simple, small behavior.”
For example, Jennifer decided that after scrolling for 30 minutes on Instagram, she will spend 15 minutes learning Math. It worked out, and in 5 weeks, she passed the Math test.
3. Celebrate immediately
JB Fogg continues: “What helps, when building up a habit, is to reward yourself in a positive way, but that’s also just as small as the tiny behavior change itself. You may give yourself a smile in the mirror, a thumbs-up, or say to yourself. That’s a great job! Just keep in mind how often professional athletes will celebrate and that they do that immediately.”
You can read more about this method on the Tinyhabit.com website or getting Tiny Habits book.
How to stay focused on your GED Prep
Putting things off is the biggest enemy of every student, and you must learn to concentrate on your school assignments if you want to conquer postponement.
Stick to your agenda, and you will learn to remain focused. Keep in mind that you have the freedom to take the four GED modules one at a time! So prepare for one subtest, pass that section, and move on to the next part.
As said before, adhering to a set timetable for your schoolwork will support you in training your brain to know when it will be ready to study.
Take frequent short breaks
One more way to keep concentrated is to take frequent short breaks. When you’ve been looking at a screen for a long time, your mind may be distracted easily.
It is good to take a five or ten-minute break each hour so your mind can have some rest. Have a little snack, do something else, or just take a rest on your couch and give your eyes a break.
After a little while, you will feel rejuvenated and all set to study on.
Quiet Learning Environment
Try to study in an atmosphere that enables you to focus on your schoolwork.
Attempting to accomplish your 520彩票网work while the TV is running or while the kids are fooling around is really not a setting that is favorable for successful studying. Instead, try to do your work in a relaxing and well-lit atmosphere.
These guidelines and values may seem hard to follow in the beginning; if you persist with them, however, you will see that before you know, they have become a sort of second nature for you.
If you follow these guidelines and tips, you will be well equipped to become an excellent online student.
These are the tools to get you moving towards a better and brighter future not only for yourself but also for those around you.
